As many of you know, I've been incredibly lucky to have completed a year-long engagement working with a fantastic team of individuals over at Teamwork Solution Group, and they just recently unveiled one of the most exciting projects I've ever had a chance to work on.
Celeste Gomez, the Executive Director for the St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission approached us to help them leverage their portion of the BP Oil Spill Settlement Award to provide a unique experience for visitors to the Parish using the latest in cutting-edge multi-touch interactive table technology from Ideum.
The project required installing the 55" Pro Multi-Touch Table at the St. Landry Parish Visitor's Center, developing a custom interactive exhibit using the GestureWorks SDK & Adobe Action Script and integrating the exhibit with their Website & CMS so that the exhibit would be automatically updated whenever the site was changed. If that sounds like a lot, it was.
I've written about Ideum's technology before, but Ideum has primarily sold these systems to high-end museums & large corporations, so there was no existing Tourism / Travel installations for us to reference for the project. That wound up having some interesting technical implications as we discovered many of the use cases we had planned had never really been developed before. Oh yeah, and there are less than 100 of these systems in the entire world, so first of it's kind isn't a euphemism here - we were really breaking new ground.
Fortunately for us, the team over at Ideum, led by CEO Jim Spadaccini, were outstanding and really got down and dirty with us to work through the design and implementation. I have to say that there aren't too many technology companies I've worked with where you can be negotiating a reseller partnership with the CEO one minute and then have him jump on a call with his lead engineers to work through a problem with our team.
I'm excited to have been a part of the project and have had a chance to work with Celeste, Casey, Jim and their respective teams. The passion and energy they brought to the effort really helped to make this project successful and I'm excited to see how Louisiana can leverage this technical lead to continue to grow tourism and bring new visitors to experience our culture.
